Marcelo Bielsa is prone to getting naked and lying on top of tables when his team loses, it has been revealed.
The Leeds United manager has developed a reputation for being one of the most bizarre and eccentric – as well as forward-thinking – managers in world football, as former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino will happily tell you.
But it seems as though there is even more to meets the eye, as former Chile internationals Mark Gonzalez and Jose Pedro Fuenzalida have made the bizarre revelation about the Argentine’s sore loser tendencies.
Both men played under Bielsa during his spell in charge of Chile from 2007 and 2011 and, as Gonzalez recalled, a defeat to Ecuador left Bielsa fuming.
Speaking on Chile television show Abrazo de GOL, the ex-Liverpool winger said: “Bielsa entered the dressing room.
“He was really hot, walking up and down, not speaking with anybody. There was another dressing room next to us and he was there.
“We walked in and he was completely naked, laying on top of a treatment table like someone was going to perform surgery on him.
“He was there for about 30 minutes, totally naked.”
Fuenzalida added: “It happened to me several times. We lost a final 1-0 to Italy playing well and missing a lot of players.
“He even fought with the Italy manager. He went to the dressing room angry, and when we entered he was going mad walking around and taking off his clothes.”
Regardless of his bizarre post-match tradition, Bielsa helped Chile reach the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
His team reached the Round of 16 before being booted out of the competition by Brazil.
Thankfully, the Leeds boss would have been able to keep his clothes on after Liam Cooper’s equaliser saved them from defeat at Brentford on Tuesday night.
The Whites clung on to their place in the top two despite a goalkeeping gaffe from Kiko Casilla as they battled to a 1-1 draw at Griffin Park.
United, top of the Sky Bet Championship and 11 points clear of third place just two months ago, have seen that lead evaporate over the last 10 matches.
In fact Brentford would have gone above Marcelo Bielsa’s wobbling Whites with a victory over them, and looked well on the way after Casilla gifted Said Benrahma his ninth goal of the season.
But Liam Cooper equalised to secure a valuable point for a side who had lost four of their previous five matches.
However, they will still find themselves outside the automatic promotion spots in 24 hours if Fulham pick up a win at Millwall.
