Liverpool have the ‘most valuable squad in Europe’ but where do Premier League rivals Chelsea and Manchester United stand?

Liverpool are currently conquering all before them in the Premier League.

It’s been different in cup competitions though and they now only have the English top flight to play for after being knocked out of the Champions League by Atletico Madrid.

If any further proof was need about the talents the Reds have on the pitch, despite their cup exits, tThe CIES Football Observatory shows the huge strides they have made.

A report published ranks Liverpool as the most valuable squad in Europe’s big five leagues (Premier League, Bundesliga, LaLiga, Ligue 1 and Serie A).

The squad is deemed to be worth 1.405billion euros in the transfer market, which is approximately £1.28bn.

And Liverpool are one of five Premier League clubs to be in the top ten of the study’s rankings which you can see below.

The most valuable squads in Europe’s big five leagues

*Study conducted by CIES Football Observatory

1. Liverpool – Value: £1.28bn

2. Manchester City – Value: £1.24bn

3. Barcelona – Value: £1.07bn

4. Real Madrid – Value: £1.01bn

5. Chelsea – Value: £979million

6. Manchester United – Value: £916m

7. Paris Saint-Germain – Value: £893m

8. Atletico Madrid – Value: £763m

9. Tottenham – Value: £716m

10. Juventus – Value: £714m

Manchester City are Liverpool’s nearest rivals for that prize and it’s a fairly close run thing with CIES valuing their squad at around £1.24bn.

Spain’s two powerhouse clubs, Barcelona and Real Madrid are third and fourth respectively.

Chelsea and Manchester United are teams with the ambitions of getting back into the title reckoning and they’re pretty evenly matched in terms of their squad values.

The Blues are ahead in this one though with CIES saying their squad value has ‘strongly increased’ due to the emergence of so many young players since the ban was imposed on them by FIFA.

Tottenham are also in this chart with a squad value of around £716m despite Jose Mourinho’s suggestion that the players he has are not strong enough to compete at the top. They’re narrowly ahead of Juventus, who have won Italy’s top flight for the last eight seasons.

There are a couple of other Premier League sides who didn’t quite get into the top ten too.

Arsenal are 15th in the rankings with a squad value of around £568m, while third-placed in the Premier League Leicester are 16th with a squad value of around £568m.
